Technology:

ShiftLock

ShiftLock is a re-invention of the Bolt Rope system used in sailing – the most common and robust method to fix a sail to a mast. We’ve adapted this method for wing-foiling, using a double bolt-rope track. To prove the system’s strength and durability, we’ve carried out cyclic load and on-water testing for two years without failure or excessive wear. ShiftLock has a breaking load of well over 710kg. We’ve also kept the system light in weight. Two 500mm ShiftLock Carbon handles (with the track) are lighter than two standard 500mm wing handles. The rigid Carbon ShiftLock handles (sold separately) react instantly to your input, while the soft TPU handle ends help protect you and your board. There are four handle lengths, from the single 1100 boom to the 500, 400, and 250 mm handles.

Hybrid N-Weave45 Airframe

The N-Weave45 segment gives the wing a unique ride performance and crisp input response, with a more forgiving wing tip that twists off nicely during freestyle manoeuvres or wave riding. The ShiftLock track adds stiffness to the strut, making this wing even more reactive and direct, and having the hybrid construction in the airframe helps us to reduce the wing’s overall weight even further.

Hybrid Matrix Canopy

A stiffer canopy is essential because the loading increases with the more rigid airframe. The Nova Pro features our stiffer MATRIX canopy in the high-load areas, while in the front, 1/3 of the canopy is a lighter-weight N-HTRS canopy material. Matrix is a high-performance stretch-resistant wing canopy material specifically designed to handle the higher loads of the N-Weave45 airframe. Compared to a traditional canopy, Matrix is 2.5x stronger in the 0/90deg warp/weft direction and 5x stronger in the 45deg bias direction. The stronger material gives your wing canopy greater structural integrity for longer, so it can maintain its designed shape over time, especially in overpowered conditions.

Carbon UDi Technology

North Sails is renowned for using 3Di technology in their podium-proven racing sails. Chasing stiffness in the inflated airframe, we’ve introduced the same material in the Nova Pro with our new patent-pending Carbon UDi technology. Anti-deflection Carbon UD tapes are placed inside the leading edge in strategic high-load areas to provide additional wingtip stiffening and prevent unnecessary deformation while keeping the wing lightweight and responsive.

Light and precise handling

Your front and back arm pressure is even, not backhand-heavy. The wing creates lift so that you can glide through turns effortlessly without any tail drop. The Nova Pro is engineered for stability and gusty conditions with less shoulder, more sweep and more aggressive turn-in at the wingtips. The wingtip geometry and balanced dihedral also prevent oscillation side-to-side when gripping the front handle, riding downwind swell, surfing, or simply walking towards the water.

Active Twist Wingtips

This allows the tip to reflex and dump any excess power. The tapered wingtips also reduce the swing weight of the wing and reduces drag from the wingtips, which helps with the stability, and allowing the tips to bend slightly, keeps the trailing edge tight. The tension of the trailing edge and overall skin tension gives the wing more low-end power. But then on the high end, the ability of the tips to reflex away allows that excess power to bleed off. The Carbon UDi Technology improves the reaction speed.

Maximum low-end power and efficiency

Making the wing feel smooth to ride with a forgiving angle of attack, the curvature in the profile section ensures a smooth laminar flow attachment from the LE to the TE (no turbulence)– so the wing retains nose positive lift through all angle of attack changes. This means fewer micro-adjustments in your hand positioning and a lighter feel. When you do a tack, it pulls upward and enables you to glide around effortlessly without any tail drop. It also contributes to the Nova Pro’s excellent loft and hangtime.

Technology:

New Compact outline

This improves the upwind ability and overall balance of the wing, eliminating any tendency to nosedive, and reducing tip-strike.  In the 6m/7m lightwind-optimised sizes, the revised outline is flatter through the centre with more curvature out toward the tips.

New Rigid handles

The two longer rigid handle bars are wrapped in a soft EVA comfort grip, letting you slide your hands into optimum trim positions so you can instantly control the wing’s pitch, yaw and roll, while keeping your body positioned perfectly over the foil. More freedom in your hand placement allows you to choose the best feel based on the conditions, your arm length and your body size, and makes transitions more intuitive.

Expanded wind range

In the larger 6m/7m sizes when the wind is lighter and you’re looking for more power, we’ve effectively sheeted the wing in, tightened the canopy and made the frame more rigid. We’ve also created a more even distribution of profile thickness from the strut to the tips, so the tips are more powered up. The wingspan is minimised, making it easier to handle and giving you the ability to get up on the foil when the wind is super-light.

Smooth high-end stability

The Nova is neutrally balanced with a flared-out profile toward the wingtips. This makes it smoother and steadier to ride, and more controllable in powerful gusts.

NEW tip-strike recovery

In the 6/7m we’ve added curvature to the wingtip so that if you do touch the water, only a small part of the wing tip will make contact. This creates less drag when the tips touch the water, improving your chance of recovery.

NEW 1.9m for lighter riders

Ideal for sharing the stoke, our smallest Nova is designed for lighter riders and kids (under 50kg). Being so small, this wing is already depowered. So, we’ve given it a more neutral angle of attack, enabling lighter riders to wing comfortably in any conditions.

GeoStrut

The concave side of the curve creates a stiffer frame, so there is less deflection and deformation in flight. The strut geometry also makes the wing more ergonomic and comfortable, so you’re in a more natural position when sheeted in.

Efficient energy transfer

The XL T-Joint is the structural frame joining the leading edge and strut in the shape of the letter T. The connection has an extra-large diameter for optimum stiffness, enabling a lightweight, direct connection to the canopy.

Dual HyperFlow and 4-point bladder lock

Bayonet style main inflation valve compatible with most pumps. No adapter needed. Two HyperFlow Inflation hoses on each side of the strut provide twice the rate of airflow on deflation and inflation. The two connections lock the left and right sides of the strut bladder in place, providing support on both sides of the strut where the bladder is attached. The bladder is also held into place by lines at the top and bottom of the strut tied off to some webbing.

Durable Dacron frame and N-HTRS canopy

The lower stretch material keeps the shape clean and undisturbed under load. We’ve also built stiffness into the design through the load distribution on the frame when in use. The Nova canopy is constructed using North High Tenacity Ripstop (N-HTRS) polyester yarn canopy material for lightness, high tear strength and longevity.

LiteVision panels

The windows are positioned in exactly the right place for a safer riding experience, without adding unnecessary weight and complexity to the design.

Kevlar strut connection

A biaxial kevlar (aramid) fibre layer provides internal strength and reinforcement to the connection between strut and leading edge. It is bias cut, so it can flex around the curvature of the strut, with a tight and accurate fit.

DuraLite reinforcement

Constructed without exposed stitching that could wear out with abrasion, the Kevlar reinforcement provides maximum scuff protection on the corner of the wing, especially when used on land.

Super efficient power delivery

The Nova Light Wind has a deep profile and stiff frame to enable the most efficient power delivery per m2. Our main focus for the Nova Light Wind
design was to get you up and riding, without needing to pump hard. To get you up on the plane and keep you there as long as possible,
through even the zero knot lulls. The framing of the wing is very stiff and reactive.
When you pull with your back arm, the wing delivers direct power and drives you forward.

Rounded wingtips for reduced tip strike

The Nova Light Wind has a compact outline with rounded wingtips for reduced tip strike. The lower aspect ratio and reduced span width means you’re less likely to catch a wingtip in the water. Aerodynamic Trailing Edge

Travel upwind easily. Our trailing edge technology creates a better laminar airflow and more directly exit for the wind than a tight trailing edge. Testing has showed us that if a wing has a tighter trailing edge it creates a hook, which gives more backhand pressure, but also wants to pull you downwind instead of progressing you forward.

HyperFlow Rapid Inflation/Deflation System

Low aspect ratio wings deliver a compact feel by keeping the centre of effort around the rider’s hands and enhance maneuverability through a reduced span however, rather than using a batten or strut to control the increased trailing edge surface area we turned to the natural tensioning properties of the leading edge – reflexing the tips delivers a constant tension in the wing canopy without adding weight where it hurts the most.

The massive low end grunts this wing develops allows the rider to choose a wing one or even 2 sizes below what they would otherwise use – perfect if freestyle and jumping is your thing but also ideal for lighter wind cruising as the larger sizes don’t feel big (apart from in power delivery!) LONG-SHORT-LONG HANDLE CONFIGURATION

We moved to a 3-handle configuration with the central one becoming smaller and the rear elongated. The elongated handles are easier to grab in a hurry and let every rider find the right spot (the wing balance can change with riding style and inflation pressure). The central handle allows for flying the wing one-handed and features attachment points for a harness line.

 

STRUT PROFILE

New for 2022 profile can better support the canopy increasing pumping efficiency and extending the useable wing range of the wing. Attaching the canopy directly to the rear section of the strut ensures zero deflection from the designed shape.

TWIN POINT INFLATION

2 high pressure inflation points allow for differentiation of the pressure in the leading edge and strut. 1 PSI more in the strut will improve the wing rigidity and handling especially when jumping. Deflation of the wing is also much faster –good in less than perfect climates.

ESCALATOR REFLEXED TIPS

The reflexed wing tipson the Escalator increase the canopy and trailing edge tension whilst in action. The natural pressure of the LE pressure forces the tips outwards applying a constant tensioning to this large area of unsupported material.

DOUBLE STITCHED MULTI SEGMENT LEADING EDGE

Multiple reinforcements improve the durability. The leading edge and struts are built with the most durable Dacron. The leading edge has been reinforced along the entire seam to protect it from getting damaged when crashing or getting a pounding in the waves. This makes it hands down one of the toughest kites on the market. Kevlar reinforcements on the strut ends protect against friction wear.

FIT ALL VALVE

All our kites are equipped with a ‘fit-all-valve’ for easy inflation. The bayonet fitting fits all pumps and the large valve opening makes inflation a breeze. You won’t have to spend hours and hours pumping your kites anymore. You will be able to ride in the perfect wind in no time.

!NEW! TRIFLOW

If you look closely at the canopy attached to the leading edge, you will see multiple triangular shaped panels. These multiple triangular shaped panels called TriFlow, create a smooth and clean transition between leading edge and canopy. By using the TriFlow, the canopy attached to the Leading edge is now able to curve both sideways over the leading edge and from the leading edge to the trailing edge.
This creates extremely smooth surface and airflow over the canopy, resulting in more stability and a better overall performance. This makes it more stable when you depower the kite and totally want to focus on your ride, rather than your kite. Feel the Difference.

ADJUSTABLE BAR PRESSURE

Most PLKB kites come with adjustable back line settings to adjust the bar feel of the kite. Moving the bridle attachment point back towards the trailing edge will make the steering pressure lighter but will require more movement of the bar. Changing the settings is super easy, just detach the back bridle line and reattach it to your preferred setting to have more or less bar pressure and steering movement. This is a personal decision based on your riding style and experience.

ADJUSTABLE PIGTAIL POSITION

By moving the pigtail over the back bridle lines away from the kite, you can compensate for front line stretching. Or, by moving the pigtail over the back bridle lines towards the kite, you can compensate for a less responsive kite. This is why our kites are equipped with 4 pre-set attachment points on the back bridle lines. This will make sure you always have the same feeling even when the kite gets older.

LASER TECH

Because the canopy is being cut using computer controlled lasers, the profile of the Escape V8 has become super smooth, limiting all wrinkles from forming in the canopy. This makes the kite more efficient and improves the Escape’s flight characteristics. The V8’s flight behaviour has also become more stable, direct and responsive than before.

SHORT PULLEY-LESS BRIDLE

LONG-SHORT-LONG HANDLE CONFIGURATION

For 2022 we move to a 3-handle configuration with the front and rear becoming elongated and the central one smaller. The elongated handles are both easier to grab in a hurry and allow every rider to find exactly the right spot (the balance of the wing can change with rider style and wing inflation pressure). The central handle let you fly the wing one-handed and features attachment points for a harness line.

STRUT PROFILE

This new for 2022 profile better supports the canopy profile extending the useable wing range of the wing and increasing pumping efficiency. Attaching the canopy directly to the rear section of the strut ensures zero deflection from the designed shape.

WINDOW POSITION

Relocated for 2022, there is no perfect position for the window however positioning it closer to the wingtip allows a safe field of view when the wing is in the normal riding position. Constructed with our Chrystal clear technology these windows will not fade, crease or crack no matter the temperature.

TWIN POINT INFLATION

With the use of 2 high pressure inflation points we can differentiate the pressure in the leading edge and strut. 1 PSI more in the strut will improve the wing handling and rigidity especially when jumping. Deflation of the wing is also much faster – ideal in less than perfect climates.

ANOTHER INNOVATION FOR YOUR SAFETY

The hose clamp is used to isolate the air pressure in the central strut and leading edge. In the event of leaking bladder, the clamp ensures that some air remains in the wing.

OPEN THE HOSE CLAMP WHEN INFLATING / DEFLATING:

To open the hose clamp, push on the lever to allow the clamp to open.

CLOSE THE HOSE CLAMP DURING WING SESSION:

To close the hose clamp, squeeze the clamp together while feeling the teeth ratchet until clamp feels tight.

The shorter center cord and more vertical leading edge create a direct balanced forward pull, as the center of effort is moved forward. The shorter center cord makes maneuvers easier as the tip is further away from the water.

The main windows are far forward so you can see where you fly and low down to catch the action when doing transitions. The HO’OKIPA Ultra PE fabric is 25% lighter than traditional Dacron leading edge materials. The reduced diameter structures and optimized details result in an overall weight saving of up to 30%.

Able to run 80 – 100% more leading edge pressure, creating a stiffer structure and ultimately allows for a thinner leading edge.

LOAD FRAME SUPPORTED CANOPY

Utilizing the same Ultra PE primarily fiber as the leading edge and struts, the load frame carries much of the primarily load running through the canopy. This prevents the canopy cloth from overstretching and losing performance. This also increases responsiveness by creating a more locked in shaping into the canopy.

Introducing Hookipa Ultra PE – by Challenge Sailcloth

Developed in conjunction with Challenge Sailcloth, this unique woven composite is the result of exhaustive development and testing, to nd the optimum balance between responsiveness, lightweight and long-term performance.

Traditional Ultra PE materials relied on a high percentage of films, coatings or glues to stabilize the material. The outcome of this was that these materials were strong, but either needed complicated seam constructions, had a limited amount of structural ber (for their given weight) or had inconsistent strength and distribution throughout the fabric.

Ho’okipa Ultra PE takes a reliable woven structure and supercharges the material through the use of Ultra PE instead of traditional polyester fabric.

The high amount of material in the composite that is structural, has allowed us to optimize all areas of the construction resulting in that beautiful blend of responsiveness, lightweight and durability.

Incredibly, the most high-performance fabric we have ever developed, comes with a reduced environmental impact, where Ho’okipa Ultra PE is made up of 48% recycled content by weight.

Understanding Ultra PE

  • A super-strong ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) ber that offers maximum strength with minimum weight.
  • Has extremely long molecular chains that transfer load more effectively. So it‘s stronger at the same weight or lighter at the same strength than alternatives. In a direct comparison to polyester, it is up to 32x Stronger.
  • 15x stronger than steel at the same weight and 2x lighter than Carbon Fiber.
  • As well as its extraordinary strength, excels in cut and abrasion resistance and has a high resistance to UV.
  • Is so light that it floats on water.
  • Stiff does not mean fragile, also has very high ductility – It can absorb a lot of energy before it breaks.

Understanding the characteristics of this material is the key to the responsiveness of the Airush Freewing Nitro, the process if inflation places a higher tension on the fabric and you feel that immediately. This does not stop at the strut and leading edge but is integrated into the canopy through the Ultra PE load frame.

In cooperation with different kite schools, Peter Lynn Kiteboarding has designed an LEI control bar that caters to the specific demands of all kiteboarders. By using parts that are already in use by multiple brands, and thus thoroughly tested, we can guarantee a bar that functions even in the most demanding settings.

The Peter Lynn Commander Bar is built so that it’s simple and straight forward, has easy replaceable parts it needed, and it very strong, tough and durable.

Features

  • Kook proof line connections – Knots and loops to indicate front and backlines.
  • Colour coated lines – The Pre-stretched Dyneema lines are PU coated, besides providing the line with maximum protection, this also allows the kitesurfers to see at a glance which line is which.
  • Clamcleat – Well working easy to use depower system. Trim your kites precisely with our clamcleat.
  • Moveable bar throw – Clamcleat can be moved towards or away from the bar to adjust the depower range so it is usable for all kitesurfers with different arm reach
  • Stopper ball – Customize the length of your depower throw with the stopper ball.

The all new Compass Bar has been redesigned with an all new Quick Release with easy Click Recovery. Many new features such as Ceramic Ball Bearings, Pre-Stretched SK75 lines, 3D grip, Replaceable Loops and with new looks, the Compass bar is all you need.

The Compass Bar LEI replaces the Navigator, Aviator and Magnet Bar. The bar comes in 2 versions; the LEI and FOIL version, but they are interchangeable. The LEI version comes with 22m lines, and can be easily fitted with a 5th line and brake line so that it can also be used on depower foil kites. The FOIL version comes with 18m lines and includes a brake line.

The Compass bar is our favourite and top choice to use in our school and hire fleet, it is very high quality and is simple and reliable to use. The Click in safety system is fantastic, very easy to re build. The strong flying lines and PU covered depower line further add longevity and durability to the whole set up

ISO 21853 Safety Standard for Quick Release Systems Certified

The PL Compass bar comes with the ISO standard 21853 certification. This certificate has been introduced in 2020 to standardise and safety check all quick release safety systems. It shows that the Quick Release has been tested and shall withstand a load of 3 times the maximum user weight of 120kg equal to 3600 N without any breakage and shall still function as intended.

One Hand-Recovery

The PLKB Compass bar has been designed to be as easy as possible. You can easily recover the opened Quick Release when laying in the water hanging on to your kite. With a simple click you can push the QR loop back and continue riding.

Ceramic Ball Bearing

The PLKB Compass bar comes with ceramic ball bearing swivel. This makes twisting the bar super smooth and keep your lines untwisted. The Ball Bearing its open so sand flushes out easily.

Twisting Safety Connector

To keep Safety Line in good condition it should not be twisted. Because the connector its placed behind the  ball bearing it unwinds automatically.

Easy Trimming – No more Tangles Lines

The Trimline and Clamcleat have been developed to create a perfect lock for easy power adjustment.  When your kite its depowered the grub handle can be locked to the side of the clamcleat with the Velcro Lock.

Dyneema SK75 425KG Lines 18m & 22m

The Compass bar has been made with only with highest quality SK75 lines. These lines can handle up to 425KG and are braid to perfection. Lines with Anti-Twist, Minimal Stretch and UV protected for maximum durability and safety. All lines are black with colour coded connectors for cook proof attachment. The power lines are split after 8m to prevent your bar from sliding all the way to the kite after pulling the safety.

ONE bar for all

The Compass bar has an option in the leader lines to add a brake line. This could convert the Compass LEI Control bar to be used for foil kites. Also a 5th line can be added to be used in the snow or for the 5-lines kites.

Every part of the bar can be easily replaced for maintenance or upgrades.
